The two countries first established diplomatic ties in 1884 and have maintained a strategic partnership since 2018.
During the meeting, Lee emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence and the defense industry. Meloni highlighted South Korea’s growing influence in both economic and cultural sectors, expressing strong interest in deepening collaboration.
Meloni conveyed her hopes to visit South Korea soon and extended an invitation for President Lee to visit Italy at a convenient time, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to closer engagement.
