Italy Plans €2,500 Bonus for Young Workers with 1% Tax Rate

In a bid to retain young talent and invigorate the workforce, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has unveiled a plan to award a €2,500 bonus to workers under the age of 30. This initiative, part of Italy’s proposed 2027 budget package totaling €26 billion, aims to support young professionals as they embark on their careers within the country.

According to Meloni, the bonus will be subject to a minimal tax rate of just 1%, offering a significant financial incentive for young workers. Beneficiaries of this scheme can choose to receive the bonus in 12 monthly installments or as a single lump sum, providing flexibility to suit different financial needs.

The proposal is designed to address employment challenges by encouraging young Italians to build their careers domestically rather than pursuing opportunities abroad. Meloni emphasized that the government is committed to making young workers feel supported in their professional aspirations, thereby reducing the brain drain that has affected Italy in recent years.

The bonus scheme is part of a broader government effort to tackle unemployment and bolster economic growth by making Italy a more attractive place for young talent to thrive. By integrating this measure into the national budget, the government hopes to create a more vibrant and competitive labor market.

As the proposal moves forward, it reflects the Italian government’s strategic focus on fostering a supportive environment for its youth, aiming to strengthen the country’s economic foundation by investing in the next generation of workers.
