Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has emphasized the importance of continued support for Ukraine, highlighting the critical role it plays in ensuring European security. Following a meeting in Paris with defence ministers from the E5 group, Crosetto underscored that Italy’s commitment to Ukraine is aligned with its obligations to international alliances, including the European Union and NATO. He warned that the conflict in Ukraine presents a significant threat to the security of Europe as a whole.
Speaking to reporters, Crosetto stated that Italy’s assistance to Ukraine should be perceived not merely as aid to a foreign nation but as an investment in the future and collective security of Europe. He assured that Italy will maintain its support for Ukraine within the scope of its capabilities.
His comments come amid internal disagreements within Italy’s ruling coalition. The tension arose after Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani contradicted Transport Minister Matteo Salvini’s calls to halt military aid to Kyiv. Despite these differing views within the government, Crosetto’s remarks reaffirm Italy’s steadfast position in supporting Ukraine against ongoing challenges.
