Vietnam and Switzerland are set to deepen their diplomatic and economic ties, focusing on trade, investment, and innovation. This was highlighted during an event celebrating Vietnam’s National Day and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, held in Bern. Vietnamese National Assembly Vice President Nguyễn Thị Thanh emphasized the importance Vietnam places on its relationship with Switzerland, noting the latter’s support during pivotal moments in Vietnam’s history.

Thanh underscored the significant growth in bilateral relations, particularly in politics, trade, investment, education, science, technology, and innovation. She stressed Vietnam’s intent to further enhance these ties by leveraging political trust and traditional friendship. The aim is to expand economic cooperation and collaboration in science, technology, and innovation, particularly in areas where Switzerland excels and Vietnam is developing.

The economic partnership between the two countries is a cornerstone of their bilateral relations, with trade exceeding $2 billion annually. Over 100 Swiss companies have invested in Vietnam, with interests spanning pharmaceuticals, food processing, precision machinery, and watchmaking. Swiss Senator Mauro Poggia remarked on the significant expansion of cooperation since Vietnam began its economic renewal, highlighting Switzerland’s support for Vietnam’s transformation and sustainable development.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Châu Mai Anh pointed to the upcoming establishment of a Comprehensive Partnership in 2025 and the conclusion of negotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association as key milestones. These developments are poised to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.

Both nations see significant potential for future cooperation in areas such as innovation, digital transformation, sustainable development, finance, and human resource development. This forward-looking approach is expected to solidify and expand the partnership, benefiting both countries economically and culturally.
