Poland has successfully thwarted a plot, allegedly supported by Russia, to assassinate a Ukrainian-American citizen residing in Warsaw, confirmed Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He highlighted the unprecedented nature of the incident as it marked the first known attempt by a Russian-linked entity to target a U.S. citizen within a NATO member country. Polish officials identified the intended target as a U.S. citizen of Ukrainian origin, deemed a threat by the Russian authorities.
On August 7, Polish authorities arrested a suspect accused of being recruited by Russian intelligence services. This individual is currently in custody for a three-month period. The operation was a collaborative effort with U.S. intelligence services, according to the Polish minister in charge of intelligence agencies.
