Iran Criticizes Qatar’s Technological Delays in Investigating Missing Pilots, Doha Denies

by admin477351

Iran has leveled accusations against Qatar, claiming that the Gulf nation is hindering its efforts to investigate the whereabouts of three Iranian pilots who allegedly went missing during a recent conflict. Qatar has firmly rejected these claims, denying any involvement in holding the pilots. According to Mohammad Bagherzadeh, an official from Iran’s armed forces, an expert team from the Iranian Air Force has been awaiting permission for several months to travel to Qatar and probe the situation. Bagherzadeh has urged Doha to grant access to the team and appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross to assist in resolving the issue.

Previously, Iran announced that it had retrieved the body of one of the pilots, Majid Kazemi, who was reportedly killed in an attack that involved the US Al Udeid Air Base located in Qatar. In response to the allegations, Majed al-Ansari, a spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, categorically denied that any Iranian pilots were detained. Al-Ansari explained that defensive measures were taken after attempts to communicate with the pilots, who had allegedly breached Qatari airspace, went unanswered. He also noted that Qatar’s search and rescue teams had undertaken efforts to trace the pilots and their remains.

Qatar maintains that it coordinated with Iranian authorities to facilitate the transfer of the remains of the pilot who was found. They claim that an invitation was extended to Iranian officials back in April, offering them the opportunity to send a team to Qatar to receive detailed information regarding the search and rescue operations. However, according to Qatar, the invitation has yet to be accepted by Iranian officials.

This dispute unfolds amid ongoing tensions involving Iran, the United States, and other countries within the region, following the flare-up of conflict earlier this year. Qatar has been actively involved in diplomatic efforts to mitigate these tensions and has sought to facilitate communication between the conflicting parties. The situation underscores the complexities of geopolitical relations in the region and the challenges faced in diplomatic engagements.
