Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extended his congratulations to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni following the significant achievement of her government becoming the longest continuously serving administration in the Italian Republic’s history. Erdoğan commended Meloni for reaching this milestone, emphasizing his optimism about the future of Türkiye-Italy relations, which he believes will continue to grow in cooperation and solidarity.

Meloni’s administration has now held office for 1,413 consecutive days, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days set by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government from 2001 to 2005. Since assuming office in October 2022 as Italy’s first female prime minister, Meloni has cultivated a strong rapport with Erdoğan. The two leaders often engage in discussions focusing on both bilateral and regional matters.

The collaboration between Türkiye and Italy has seen expansion across various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. The countries have also coordinated efforts on regional issues such as the situations in Libya and Ukraine. This robust partnership was further solidified during the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit held in Rome in April 2025, where numerous agreements were signed to enhance their strategic and economic ties.

Erdoğan and Meloni’s most recent meeting took place during the NATO summit held in Ankara in July. During this encounter, they reiterated their commitment to bolstering trade, increasing mutual investments, and enhancing cooperation in defense and other key strategic sectors.
